About the course

This course aims to develop competence in the analysis and communicative use of English for academic purposes.  Particular attention is paid to developing the language and skills necessary to write assignments, take part in discussions, listen to lectures and read academic texts.

Entry Requirements

International students must satisfy the following conditions:

  • An overall IELTS band score of 5.0 (or accepted equivalent) OR completed Certificate III in Spoken and Written English
  • 18 years and above with a High School Certificate (Year 12)

Duration

This course will be delivered over 22 weeks, which comprises of 20 study weeks and 2 weeks of holiday.

Delivery mode and Assessment

The course is delivered over 25 hours per week. It consists of two 8-hour day, one 4-hour day face to face in a classroom setting and 5 hours of online/distance course work.

Assessments may be conducted through a combination of written questions and answers, case studies, role-plays, and demonstrations.

An average of 15-20 hours of self-study is also required in this course.

Pathways

Upon successful completion of 10365NAT Certificate IV in Spoken and Written English, the candidate may pursue a range of diploma programs available at CBC such as the diploma of business.

Recognition of Prior Learning

We offer everyone the opportunity to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) at enrolment. Students may be granted credit or partial credit in recognition of skills and knowledge gained through work experience, life experience and/or prior training.
